7 Days in Northern Ireland: The Ultimate Luxury Itinerary from Derry and the Causeway Coast
Jul 05, 2026
Planning a visit to Northern Ireland can be exciting, but with so much to see, it can also feel overwhelming. From spectacular coastlines and world-famous landmarks to hidden villages and historic cities, fitting everything into one trip isn’t always easy.

At Executive Travel NI, we’ve spent over 40 years helping visitors experience the very best of our country. Whether welcoming families from America, golf groups from Europe or cruise passengers arriving in Derry, we’ve learnt that the best holidays aren’t rushed—they’re carefully planned with local knowledge.
This seven-day itinerary is designed for visitors who want to experience Northern Ireland in comfort. Rather than spending hours behind the wheel, navigating unfamiliar roads or searching for parking, you can simply relax and enjoy every mile while taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery anywhere on the island of Ireland.
If you’re visiting for the first time, this itinerary combines iconic attractions with some of our favourite local places that many visitors never discover.

Day One – Discover the Historic Walled City of Derry
There is no better place to begin your journey than Derry, one of Europe’s finest surviving walled cities.
Steeped in history yet full of modern energy, Derry offers a wonderful mix of heritage, culture, music and fantastic food.
Start your morning with a walk around the famous 17th-century city walls. Stretching for almost a mile, they offer incredible views across the city and tell the story of centuries of history.

From there, wander through the historic streets, visit the Guildhall, explore the independent shops and enjoy lunch in one of the city’s many cafés or award-winning restaurants.
No visit is complete without crossing the iconic Peace Bridge, linking both sides of the River Foyle while symbolising the city’s transformation into one of Northern Ireland’s most welcoming destinations.
In the evening, enjoy the city’s lively atmosphere before preparing for the adventures that lie ahead along the Causeway Coast.
Day Two – The Spectacular Causeway Coastal Route
Many people believe the Causeway Coastal Route is one of the world’s greatest scenic drives, and it’s easy to understand why.

Leaving Derry, the coastline begins to reveal dramatic cliffs, golden beaches and charming seaside villages.
One of our favourite early stops is Downhill Beach, where miles of golden sand meet the Atlantic Ocean. Towering above sits the magnificent Mussenden Temple, dramatically perched on the cliff edge and offering one of the most photographed views anywhere in Northern Ireland.

Continue east towards Castlerock and Coleraine before arriving in the bustling seaside town of Portrush.
Take time to stroll around the harbour, enjoy locally caught seafood or simply watch the world go by while overlooking the Atlantic.
Just minutes away lies Whiterocks Beach, another stunning stretch of coastline where towering limestone cliffs frame the crystal-clear water below.

By travelling privately, there’s no need to rush between attractions. You can stop whenever something catches your eye, enjoy lunch with a sea view and travel entirely at your own pace.
Day Three – Giants, Castles and Legends
Today is the day many visitors have been waiting for.
The Giant’s Causeway remains Northern Ireland’s most famous natural attraction and continues to amaze visitors from across the globe.

Created millions of years ago by volcanic activity—but forever linked with the legendary giant Finn McCool—the unique basalt columns are unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Spend time exploring the coastal paths, enjoying the visitor centre and taking in spectacular Atlantic views stretching towards Scotland on clear days.
Just a few minutes away stands the dramatic ruins of Dunluce Castle.

Perched precariously on the cliffs above the sea, Dunluce has inspired countless stories, films and even television productions. Walking through the ruins while listening to waves crashing below is an unforgettable experience.
For those seeking a little adventure, continue towards Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.

Originally built by salmon fishermen over 250 years ago, the bridge offers incredible coastal scenery and an experience you’ll remember long after returning home.
If time allows, finish the afternoon with a visit to the world-famous Old Bushmills Distillery, where generations of master distillers have perfected the art of Irish whiskey.

Even if whiskey isn’t your drink of choice, the craftsmanship, history and atmosphere make it a fascinating stop.
After a full day exploring the Causeway Coast, return to your accommodation knowing you’ve experienced some of the very best scenery Northern Ireland has to offer.
